Parts List
Solo+ Box
5W Solar Panel Box
Kit Box
Before assembling your Tank Level Monitoring Kit, make sure that you have all the parts listed above (for each box).
Tools Required (Not Supplied)
You will also need to bring the items listed above when installing the Kit. Don't leave home without them!
Information required for registration
There are three things you will need to know for calibrating your Solo+ Tank Level Monitoring kit after its installation. You can record these before proceeding with the actual installation:
- Serial number (SP-0xxxxx) of your Solo+ located on the inside of the enclosure door.
- Tank Height: The distance (in inches or centimeters) from the bottom of the sensor to the bottom of the tank.
- Head Clearance: The vertical distance from the bottom of the sensor to the bottom of the tank's overflow pipe. This would be the same as the distance from the sensor to the tank's contents when the tank is full.
Assembly
Attach mounting brackets to module
Attach the mounting brackets to the back of the module securely with the supplied screws.
Attach pole to bracket
Assemble mounting post to tank bracket with supplied 5/16” bolt, washer, lock washer, and nut set. Only hand tighten the hardware. The final adjustment of the pole's angle will be made once the assembly is mounted to the tank roof.
Mount Module on Pole
Slide one of the 46-70mm hose clamps onto the pole. This will attach the bottom enclosure bracket to the pole.
Place the second hose clamp across the top mounting bracket, around the post, and tighten. Tighten the bottom one across the bottom enclosure bracket.
Assemble solar panel kit
Assemble the solar panel brackets
Place the washers in the correct order on the bolts.
Insert the bolts through Part A.
Assemble the brackets together loosely, carefully noting the orientation of Part B.
Thread hose clamp through solar mounting bracket
Take one of the supplied 46-70mm hose clamps and unscrew the band. Thread the band through the solar mounting bracket assembly. Clamp it but do not tighten now.
Attach panel mounting bracket assembly to solar panel
On the side of the solar panel marked “THIS SIDE UP”, place the bracket assembly so that Part B is on the underside of the frame and Part A on the topside of the frame. Slide the bird guard between Part A and the top of the solar panel and tighten the bolts.
Mount Solar Panel on Pole
Slide the solar panel assembly onto the top of the pole, rotate the solar panel in the required direction and tighten the hose clamp to secure it to the pole.
Route solar panel cable through the smaller conduit gland
The entry into the Solo+ is through the bottom of the enclosure.
Route the solar panel cable securely inside the solar panel frame and flush against the pole to prevent it from hanging loosely. Secure it to the pole at the top and bottom using the provided cable ties. Insert the insulated cable through the smaller gland.
Remove the insulation tape from the wires. Connect the red wire of the solar panel to 1 and black to ground on the POWER IN port plug.
Mount Antenna on Pole
Insert the antenna cable through the top of the pole and out of the top hole.
Attach the antenna connector tightly to the antenna port at the top of the module.
Attach Sensor Assembly
Attach the sensor assembly supplied with your kit via the larger conduit port in the bottom of the enclosure using the mating nut.
Plug the connector to the "SERIAL & 4-20mA" port.
Choose the Location and Drill the Hole in the Tank Roof
*IMPORTANT NOTE - Before drilling the hole, the orientation of the solar panel will denote where the hole is to be drilled in the roof. Ignoring this may result in the solar panel not facing either true north (in southern hemisphere) or true south (in northern hemisphere).
Since the sensor cannot measure any surface closer than 4" (10.2cm), the bottom of the sensor should be at least 4" above the highest level that might be measured. Note the sensor should be placed higher than this if there is risk of water splashes reaching it.
Find a convenient location on the tank where the solar panel is free of any obstructions to sunlight. The Solo+ Tank Kit requires a hole of 2” (50mm) in diameter.
The hole needs to be a minimum distance of 15% of the "tank height" (see above) away from the edge to avoid unwanted reflections.
For liner tanks, due to the curvature of the roof, the sensor may need to be installed right in the middle of the tank to avoid reflections and accomodate the minimum 4" (10.2cm) clearance.
Mount the Assembly to the Tank Roof
Position the assembly on the roof. Place the sensor in its hole. The orientation of the bracket should be such that the angle of the level sensor can be adjusted to vertical, and the solar panel can face true north (in the southern hemisphere) or true south (in the northern hemisphere). The sensor should point directly at the water surface at a clean 90º angle. Otherwise the signal can end up bouncing a number of times around the tank before returning to the sensor and therefore create inaccurate readings. Using the supplied self-drilling screws, attach the assembly to the tank.
Turn on the Solo+ and verify that it is operational
