The Observant Global Software Platform
The Observant Global™ software platform provides an online view of your Observant system. It enables you to manage your Observant system and connected equipment using a desktop computer, notebook computer, tablet, or smartphone. It will allow you to:
- Monitor current and historical information provided by your equipment.
- Control and automate your equipment (where supported).
- Receive emails and SMS alerts for critical events.
Each subscriber has an individual login and set of Monitor Cards, which they can access.
Logging In
To access the system, open a web browser and go to obsrv.it — this link will take you to the software platform, Observant Global. (For best results, Observant recommends using the Google Chrome web browser.)
Input your user credentials into the boxes provided
Features of the System Menu
On the top left-hand side of the screen is the System Menu, which controls the view of the system and what data are displayed.
Landing Screen (Monitor Application)
The default landing screen is the Monitor application. It is typically used as a summary page, displaying the overall status of the site. Reviewing the individual status of each device, it is possible to determine if there are any issues or devices requiring attention.
Sometimes the data for a specific site is minimized, like the Northgate Pump Monitor Card, depicted in the illustration above. Clicking the triangle on the left-hand side of the name (►) drops down an expanded display, providing a view of the latest logged datum from each sensor at that site.
Several articles discussing the Monitor Application are also available here.
Locate Application
To see where each C3 unit is located, click the top-left, drop-down menu and then select Locate.
The Locate page displays the C3 units plotted onto Google maps. If the units are grouped together in the Observant Global Monitor screen, the units will not appear as separate places; rather, they are displayed on the map as a group at a single location.
The image below shows only one unit, even though the Observant Demo login uses devices from separate locations for its data.
Individual devices that lack GPS units will be displayed as the locations of their associated C3 units. For example, soil moisture probes do not appear as separate points on the map.
More information on the Locate Application is available here.
Analyze Application
In the left-hand menu, you can select Analyse to examine the data in greater detail.
The Analyse application enables users to track their systems in very precise detail and can be exported to a CSV file. The graphs can also be saved for tracking purposes.
Analyse is particularly useful for viewing trends over time and can be used to identify any issues or shortfalls that may be occurring within the system.
When selecting a single data set, the data will be plotted over one of several possible time spans. In the above example, clicking on "month" would expand the interval displayed from one week to a full month.
Three Ways to Download Your Data
As in the Monitor application, the Analyze data is always available to be downloaded for analysis.
Download the graph data stored on the server by clicking the "CSV file" button. Doing so will save a spreadsheet containing the data values in their raw forms. The CSV file can then manipulated to show only the relevant or interesting periods for the system.
An image of the chart can be saved by clicking on the "PNG Image" button. The computer will prompt for a file name and then automatically save the file to the downloads folder of your computer.
Charts can also be printed directly from the Observant Global software platform by clicking on the "Print Chart" button.
Displaying the Data for Multiple Items on a Single Chart
Multiple data lines can be selected to show referenced levels for individual items. Thus, data can be correlated against one another. For example, one may wish to track a pipe's flow rate and an associated tank's water level. Analysing these two data sets, it becomes possible to obtain a very accurate idea of the amount of flow required and the pumping time necessary to fill a particular tank.
